Update: ONCRA applies to the EU Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) framework
The EU Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) framework is a voluntary regulation designed to certify, measure, and verify high-quality carbon removal and emission reduction activities across the European Union. It aims to establish trust and a unified baseline for the European carbon market.
ONCRA has taken a major step forward: we have officially submitted our application to the CRCF.
The application has been filed for ONCRA’s biochar methodology. A second application window is expected to open later in the year, at which point ONCRA intends to broaden its submission to cover biobased building materials and carbon farming methodologies as well.
The CRCF application reflects ONCRA's ongoing effort to align its certificates with rigorous EU-level integrity requirements, while keeping the scheme practical and accessible for smaller carbon removal projects. Through ongoing work with frameworks such as the ICVCM and the CRCF, ONCRA continues to strengthen the standards and systems that give removers, buyers and partners confidence in the credits they support.

ONCRA is currently in the process of being assessed against the Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) of the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market, one of the leading global frameworks for high-integrity carbon markets.
The ICVCM was created to improve trust, transparency and consistency in the voluntary carbon market. Its Core Carbon Principles define rigorous standards for governance, transparency, scientific robustness, third-party verification, and sustainable impact. Programs that meet these standards can become recognised as CCP-Eligible.
For ONCRA, pursuing ICVCM alignment is a natural step in its mission to make carbon removal certification transparent, credible and accessible. ONCRA believes trust in climate solutions must be built through openness, scientific grounding and clear verification processes.
The assessment process evaluates areas such as governance structures, independent validation and verification, registry transparency, tracking systems, methodologies and safeguards against double counting.
By working towards ICVCM recognition, ONCRA aims to contribute to a stronger and more trustworthy carbon market, helping removers, buyers and partners better understand what high-quality carbon certification should look like.
Transparency remains central to ONCRA's approach. Through its registry, methodologies and public information systems, ONCRA is building infrastructure that allows projects and carbon credits to be scrutinised, understood and trusted by both experts and the wider public.
