For carbon removal project owners

Your work stores carbon. We help turn it into funding.

We built our certification process for the people doing the real work: farmers, builders, growers, land stewards, seaweed farmers, material producers and other entrepreneurs regenerating life on Earth. Oncra certifies that impact, so your stored carbon becomes trusted and fundable.

Is this for me?

Oncra is designed for small and medium-sized carbon removal projects that store CO₂ through nature-based solutions. Since climate change is not limited to borders, we operate globally.

Land Stored Carbon

Carbon stored in living landscapes, trees, crops, roots, soils and stable biomass. For example: biochar, food forests, bamboo plantations, biomass burial, agroforestry, regenerative farming, reforestation, and fiber crops (Regeling Vezelgewassen LVVN).

Learn more

Rock Stored Carbon

Permanent carbon removal by applying enhanced rock weathering or biochar production in closed systems. For example in soil or building materials.

Learn more

Ocean Stored Carbon

Carbon removal in aquatic systems. For example: seaweed farming, sinking seaweed, planting seagrass, and mangroves.

Learn more

Construction Stored Carbon

Long term carbon stored in biobased building material. Certifiable on product, module, and building level. This includes biochar applied in building materials.

Oncra is built differently

Sounds familiar? Here's how Oncra is different

"Certification is too complex"

We keep the process as simple as possible. You do not need to become a carbon market expert. Our team helps you understand the steps, the data and the documentation.

"Certification is too expensive"

Oncra is built to make carbon finance accessible, also for smaller projects. We use a lean and efficient process so certification does not become the barrier that keeps good projects out of the market. Oncra is a steward-owned, non-profit organization.

"Certification is time-consuming"

Our streamlined process is designed for efficiency. Most applications are completed in weeks, not months.

Oncra Certification Process

A clear route from carbon removal to carbon removal certificates and project funding.

01

Apply

Submit your (future) project details through our simple application form or schedule an intake call with our team.

02

Assessment

We review your project against our certification criteria and provide feedback on eligibility and next steps.

03

Pre-validation

Together, we gather all required data, substantiations, and carbon calculations. Our team assists you in every step of the process.

04

Registration

The project is ready for our public registry. All project data from the pre-validation phase transparently shared. From this point, the estimated future carbon removal can be sold in prepurchase agreements. These are not issued certificates yet. Official certificates are only issued after the carbon removal has been realised and independently verified.

05

Third-party Validation & Verification

Once the project is implemented and carbon is removed from the atmosphere, a certification body will perform a joint validation and verification, confirming that the carbon is actually removed and safely stored. After a successful validation and verification, the estimated potential carbon certificates become official carbon removal certificates.

See our documentation for more information on the verification.

06

Monitoring

Depending on the carbon removal method, the project is monitored every 3–5 years to monitor the carbon storage and potentially issue further carbon certificates.

07

Monetization

Your carbon removal certificates are ready to be sold on the voluntary carbon market. You can either sell the certificates yourself, or partner with our carbon brokers to sell the certificates on your behalf.

For the exact requirements per carbon removal method, explore the application process.

What do you receive?

Oncra Certificate

Formal proof that your project stores carbon in a measurable and trustworthy way. This is the foundation for turning your climate impact into economic value.

Market Access

Certification makes your stored carbon eligible for funding. Your certificates can be sold or used in tenders, sustainability programmes or carbon market transactions.

Monetizing Carbon Removal

How certification can help unlock the value of your stored carbon by selling carbon removal certificates. After the successful certification through the Oncra system, the carbon certificates can be sold on the voluntary carbon market.

Who sells the carbon removal certificates?

You can sell the stored carbon yourself to (local) businesses or individuals that want to fund climate action, for example to address residual emissions as part of a credible climate strategy. Or, let our partnered brokers sell them on your behalf. To protect independence and avoid conflicts of interest, Oncra does not sell certificates directly. Certificates are sold by project owners or broker partners.

What is the value of one carbon removal certificate?

The value of a certificate depends on the type of carbon storage, quality of evidence, permanence, co-benefits and market demand. Projects with strong biodiversity, soil, water or social benefits can be especially attractive to (local) buyers. The Oncra certificates are generally sold for €75 up to €150.

Who is allowed to buy the carbon certificates?

All organisations buying Oncra-certified carbon removal must adhere to the Oxford Carbon Offsetting Principles to ensure our certificates help to transition into a regenerative economy, away from fossil fuels. Simply stated, only organisations with clear emission reductions and a fossil-free business model by 2050 are eligible to buy.

Sell your credits through a broker

Once your project is certified, these broker partners can help you monetize your carbon removal certificates. Oncra does not sell certificates directly - brokers act as independent intermediaries between project owners and buyers.

Oncra does not endorse any specific broker. Project owners are free to sell certificates independently or through any intermediary of their choice.

Certification pricing

Certification fees differ per removal method. Full pricing details for each method are available in the documentation.
